words by Paul Spencer, 2004
(music not yet written)
The world's not as simple as it was before.
It's not just lords and serfs anymore,
It's so far beyond just rich versus poor,
So what became of the old class war?
We all drive a car and it makes us mad,
Work for a week and your mood turns bad,
Look round the city and the place looks sad,
Our lifestyle causes our poor condition,
But what became of the old class war?
You drive coz your work isn't where you're living,
You live there coz that was the choice you're given,
It seems like our lives are mechanically driven,
Convention makes our life decisions,
Our lifestyle causes our poor condition,
But what became of the old class war?
There's a law about everything we do today,
How we live, how we work how we shop and play,
And if we feel so timid that we just obey,
Legislation becomes convention,
Convention makes our life decisions,
Our lifestyle causes our poor condition,
And what became of the old class war?
We've nearly grown out of the earls and lords,
That ruled over us with their men and swords,
Now when they want to control the hordes,
Nations pass down legislation,
Legislation becomes convention,
etc.
Nations find they've become beholden,
To dirty lucre and all things golden,
Now banks and investors have taken hold,
And institutions bulldoze nations,
Nations pass down legislation,
Legislation becomes convention,
etc.
Now there are global corporations,
Holding talks at secure locations,
After their private negotiations,
Corporations form institutions,
Institutions bulldoze nations,
Nations pass down legislation,
Legislations becomes convention,
etc.
A pool of cash was the corporate notion,
Profits split by investment quotient,
Now the pool has become an ocean,
And shareholders own the corporations,
Corporations form institutions,
Institutions bulldoze nations,
Nations pass down legislation,
Legislation becomes convention,
etc.
And a thousand shares doesn't make the grade,
A small investment that your parents made,
But the power is held by the ones who trade,
So the rich still have control!
Shareholders own the corporations,
Corporations form institutions,
Institutions bulldoze nations,
Nations pass down legislation,
Legislation becomes convention,
Convention makes our life decisions,
Our lifestyle causes our poor condition,
And it's just the same as the old class war,
Just the same as the old class war.
